Covid-19 has taken its toll on businesses but it hasn’t stopped Aarge, owner of Temptations Milkshake & Ice Cream Bar in Walthamstow, London, from looking to the future with positivity. In this post we chat to him about how PowReady helps him offer a great customer experience as well as finding out what makes his delicious desserts so irresistible.
Hi Aarge, nice to meet you! Tell me a bit about your business.
Temptations is a dessert bar and lounge that specialises in milkshakes, waffles, crepes and pancakes. We have a wide selection of ice creams; we’ve got about 26 different flavours, and it’s all properly made gelato. And if there’s something that you want that’s not on the menu, we’ll make it for you.
Sounds delicious! Do you ever get customers asking for weird combinations?
Yeah, I’ve had people asking for a waffle and wanting the whole world on it. They’ll ask for bananas, strawberries, M&Ms, nuts, Nutella, Kinder Bueno, Oreos…everything! I’m thinking “Wow, this is going to be one heavy waffle!”
What else does your business offer?
We also do coffees, and we have a shisha lounge at the back for the adults that want to come and chill after work or have a quick catch up at lunchtime.
What’s the vibe like?
We’re there for the community. When it’s summer we have everyone out, we have the whole family. Everyone from the community comes out and they all chat with each other. It’s great because there’s something for everyone. You’ve got stuff for the kids, stuff for the adults. If you’re a parent you can get an ice cream for the kids and do what you want at the same time so it works out really well.
So Temptations is great for family occasions?
Yep, it’s perfect. We’re open every day of the year, and I’m talking Eid, Hanukah, Christmas, Diwali…everything!
Why did you decide to get a PowReady charging hub for your venue?
We get a lot of customers coming in and out to use our alfresco area and when their phone batteries are low they will often ask for a charger. Instead of giving them a charger and it going missing, which normally happens, I thought PowReady would be a much better idea. Instead, I can tell them to take one of the portable batteries out and I don’t have to worry about my chargers going missing or getting misplaced anymore!
Has your charging hub had any use during lockdown?
Funnily enough, last week I had a delivery and the driver said to me “Have you got a charger? My battery is on 1%” and I said “Yes, we’ve got portable chargers you can use. All you have to do is sign up and you can charge your phone”. It was great for him because he needs his phone to tell him where to drop off deliveries.
Would you recommend PowReady to other venues?
Yes, of course! I think if all lounges had it, it would be good because customers tend to bounce from one lounge to another so they can pick up a charger in one lounge and return it easily in another.
And finally, what would you say is the secret to business success?
Quality is key. Quality and service. You have to have a good product, something that is different from everybody else. We say our product is different compared to everybody else’s because we put love into the food. That’s basically it. We take pride in it.
